How to Fix Missing Volume Icon on Windows 10

The volume icon is one of the prominent icons for managing sound volume with ease, but sometimes it gets missing from the Windows taskbar. The error “Volume icon is missing” is one of the frustrating errors that restrict the users to access sound on their device.

The error can occur on various editions of Windows, be it Windows 7, 8, and even on Windows 10. There are multiple reasons for arising this error on various Windows. It can be due to the malfunctioning of the audio device or external driver. It is also possible that the volume is disabled by default. You can fix this issue by navigating the settings application.

There are various malware or virus that might affect the sound system and tends to disable the Volume icon on your device. To fix this Volume icon disappeared issue, abide by these instructions:

Checking Volume Icon on your Device

• First and foremost, hit the Settings application.
• Tap the System section.
• Navigate towards the panel “Actions and Notifications.”
• You will see the complete listing of available applications.
• Then, ensure to have the Audio option is active on your device.

Running Local Group Policy Editor

• In the beginning, hit the Window logo and R key and then input the keyword “gpedit.msc” into the search panel, followed by the Enter key.
• Tap on the OK button to continue the process further.
• Go to the left-hand side section and hit the User Configuration section there.
• After that, tap on the Administrative Templates option.
• Then, hit the Start menu and Taskbar.
• After that, go towards the right-hand side section and then search for the option indicating removing the volume control tab. Then double hit on it.
• Next, select the option related to Disabled or “Not Configured” if not selected already. This option is available inside the panel of Properties.
• Then, hit the Apply button, followed by the Enter button there.

Modifying Text Size to 125 %

• First of all, apply right click on the Desktop area, and then you will view a pop-out box. Then hit the option “Display Settings.”
• Now, a customizing window will launch on your device’s screen, and you have to move the slide bar towards the right-hand side section and then adjust the text size up to 125 percent.
• Once the text size is adjusted to 125%, then move your slide bar in reverse mode (Left side) and again modify the size to 100%.
• Finally, shut the expanded window, and then you will view the Volume icon there.

Restarting the Explorer

• At the start, hit three keys at one go: Ctrl, Shift, and Esc. It will launch the window related to the Task Manager.
• Once the Task Manager Window opens on your device, hit the tab “Details.”
• After that, search for the option “explorer.exe” from the available listing and once got hit right tap on it.
• Go to the menu tab and then press the option “Edit Task.”
• Tap the Windows logo and R key altogether.
• Then, insert “explorer” into the search bar and hit the Enter tab there.

Customizing Registry Entries

• Hit the Window and X hotkeys on your keyboard. This action launches the menu related to Power User.
• After that, you have to hit the Command Prompt option and ensure to provide admin controls for this program.
• Now, enter the following command:

 “reg_add “HKCU_Control_Panel_Desktop” /v “Hung_A pp_Timeout” /t_REG_SZ _d_10000_f.”

“reg_add “HKCU_Control_Panel_Desktop” //v “Wait_To_Kill_App_Timeout” //t_REG//SZ _d “20000_f.”

• Finally, shut the command window to execute your entered Command.

Deleting Value in the Registry Section

• First and foremost, hit the Window key and R tab followed by the Enter button.
• After that, insert “Regedit” into the search panel and hit the Enter key there.
• Now, enter this path into the Registry Editor window once the Registry Window opens on your screen:

“Computer_HKEY\\CURRENT\\USER_Software_Classes_Local\\ Settings_Software_Microsoft_Windows_Current\Version_Tray_Notify”

• Before proceeding further, it is recommended to take a full back up of the registry entries. To do so, apply the right mouse, click on the key “TrayNotify” into the right-hand section, and then select the option “Export” by navigating the menu tab.
• Now, go to the Export range panel and hit the “Select Branch” option.
• After that, input the file name that you wish and select a particular saving location and hit the Save tab there.
• Run the registry file, if you feel that any error is expected to occur after creating the registry modifications. This action will restore the registry settings to a default state.
• Finally, reboot the device to save all the changes that you have made.

Updating Audio Drivers

Audio drivers play a very important role in sound volume or its affects. If the issue is directly related to volume, then it’s good to modify and update audio drivers.

• First of all, hit the Window logo and X keys simultaneously to launch Window +X menu.
• Then, choose the best-matched option “Device Manager” from the expanded listing.
• Once the device manager window launches on your screen, open the panel related to audio, video, and game controllers. Apply the Right-tap on the audio gadget.
• After that, hit the option “Update Driver.”
