Complete Guide to Setting up Cellular on Apple Watch


Apple’s Watch 3 and Watch 4 come with GPS + Cellular. Many Watch owners wonder how cellular network works on the smartwatch. Well, if you want to know how to activate and manage cellular data on your Apple Watch, then read on.

Prerequisites

·         You need an Apple Watch Series 4 or 3 with GPS and Cellular.
·         Updated watchOS version.
·         You need an iPhone 6 or more recent models.
·         Updated iOS version.
·         Carrier plan must be eligible for Apple Watch cellular service.
·         Cellular network must be in range.

Setting up the cellular plan

Cellular can be activated while setting up the Apple Watch. While setting up, locate the option for setting up cellular. Here’s what you need to do:

1.       Unlock your iPhone.
2.       Launch the Apple Watch app.
3.       Go to the My Watch tab.
4.       Select  Cellular.
5.       Now, hit the Set Up Cellular option.
6.       Follow the guidelines on the screen.
7.       Connecting to a cellular network
8.       The Watch will automatically connect to the best wireless network.
9.       Wait for the Watch to connect to a cellular network.

See the signal strength by going to the Control Center. You can do so pressing and holding the lower portion of the screen and then slide upwards.

How to change cellular carriers?

The iPhone and Watch have to use the same carrier. When you switch the carrier on your phone, you have to do remove the older one from your Apple Watch. Here’s how:
1.       Unlock your iPhone.
2.       Launch the Apple Watch application.
3.       Go to the My Watch menu.
4.       Select Cellular from the list.     
5.       The carrier will now change.
6.       To add another plan, select Add a New Plan.
7.       Follow the instructions on the screen.

Removing the cellular plan

To remove the cellular plan here’s what you need to do:
1.       Open the iPhone
2.       Tap on the Apple Watch app.
3.       Go to the My Watch tab.
4.       Now, select Cellular from the menu.
5.       Hit the I icon located next to Carrier below Cellular Plan.
6.       Confirm the action.
