How to Access iPhone Data if the Owner Passes Away
Know
how you can access the iPhone, which doesn’t belong to you in case of an
emergency or when the owner passes away.
As we are entering more and more into the technological era, we
are starting to keep our data and details in the mobile devices. The data on
the mobile device has much more than just the number and some social media. It
contains everything from our preferences, office work to our secrets.
Our mobile device contains everything; sometimes, we have to
access the data from other people’s iPhone to help them in the emergency to
inform. In the case of suspicions circumstances, this data can be much helpful
to know about those circumstances.
When the victim’s iPhone is protected with the Passcode, then
you have very few options to access the data. The device will not open itself
unless you know the Passcode due to the Privacy and Security settings created
by Apple. Still, there are some techniques that can be used to overcome this
security.
1.
iCloud
2.
Erase and Restore
3.
When you don’t have the Password of Device and iCloud
iCloud
If you want to use this method, then you have to have access to
the email ID used in the iCloud. If you have access to that mail ID, then Reset
the Password of iCloud. The link or the OTP will be mailed to the Email ID,
which will allow you to change the password, and then you can access the data
you think you need.
Erase
and Restore
This technique is useful when you don’t have the Passcode to the
iPhone, and have sufficient time. Then it would help if you used this
technique; in this, you can use iCloud or iTunes to restore the data. To Erase
the data from the iPhone, you should follow these steps:
§ Open
the app Settings.
§ Click
on General.
§ Click
on the Reset button, situated at the bottom of the page.
§ Select
the Erase All Content and Settings. There is a possibility that you have to
enter the Passcode. Otherwise, it will clean the device and reboot itself.
Now you have to restore the data you have erased, for that you
have two options:
§ From
iCloud Backup
§ From
iTunes Backup
iCloud
Backup Restoring
For this, you have to follow these steps after erasing the data:
§ Press
the Home button when the screen displays Hello.
§ Choose
the language.
§ Then
choose your Country and Region.
§ Now,
connect to the Wi-Fi network.
§ Set the
Location service Setting.
§ Now you
have to create the Touch ID.
§ When
you see the Apps and Data on the screen, click on the option Restore from the
iCloud Backup.
§ Now you
have to enter the Apple ID and its Password.
§ Tap on
the Agree Button on the Terms and Conditions Screen.
§ Click
on Show all backups; from here, choose one you want to get back (generally, you
should choose the first one, which is the latest Backup created.
Restoring
Data from the iTunes
If you wish to restore your data from the iTunes then:
§ Connect
the iPhone to the PC (which was used previously).
§ Open
the iTunes on the PC.
§ Now,
tap on the icon of a device located on the top left corner.
§ Tap on
the Summary, located on top of the Settings section on the left pane.
§ Tap on
Restore Backup.
§ Now,
you have to select the device and then tap on Restore.
§ There
is a possibility that you have to enter the password here, too (if the user has
created it to protect his data).
When
You doesn’t Have the Password
To protect privacy and data, Apple has created a protective
layer over everything. This is the reason why you can have some difficulty to
crack security and get the data. But in case of an emergency, you can’t access
the data, which can be valuable pictures, videos, or data.
If you wish to get the ID, then you have to request it from
Apple. Apple can’t give away the credentials or open the data if there is
Active Activation Lock. For this, you have to make contact with Apple Support.
Here, you have to provide the conditions (or being specific death certificate)
to them. There is a chance that you have to present the Power of Attorney. It
is hard to know for a fact because there is no specific mentioned pattern
mentioned by the company at any point. After the submission process, Apple will
provide the Credentials to the person who contacted the support. This method
takes time. So it will only be useful when the victim is no longer with us.
Once you get the credentials, then you can use any methods
mentioned above to access the data.
